Saudi Arabiaโs armed forces, in coordination with the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), carried out precision strikes against Iran-aligned militant targets in Iraq, according to military officials.
The strikes were conducted on July 28 and targeted multiple logistics and weapons sites in eastern Iraq. CENTCOM said the operation was carried out in response to more than 30 drone attacks directed by Iranโs Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against US forces and Saudi energy infrastructure over the previous 72 hours.
According to CENTCOM, the drone attacks against US forces were unsuccessful. The command also said that Iran-aligned militias in Iraq had attempted more than 600 attacks against US citizens and facilities between February and April.
The joint operation marks a significant development in regional tensions and highlights growing military coordination between Washington and Riyadh as attacks involving Iran-aligned groups continue across the region.
The latest strikes also come amid renewed hostilities involving Iran, the United States and regional actors, raising concerns over the potential for further escalation in the Middle East.
